Every mechanical product from a car to a garage door uses sprockets, which are power transmission products, along with bushings, hubs, and couplings. Power transmission is the movement of energy from where is it generated to where it can be used to perform useful work. This is the domain of Drop Designs, an award winning company that designs and manufactures power transmission products.  Drop Designs recently built a new facility in South Slocan, which is the largest of their 4 facilities and will become the head office of this pioneering company.

Drop Designs' mission is to provide practical and reliable industrial components used in power transmission. What makes them an award winning company is the innovation that transpires at every level of the process of their products, from design to production. The company is creating products engineered to reduce maintenance costs and downtime of machines, as well as to increase the life of the product. One of the key reasons Drop Designs is able to be highly competitive is that the nature of their designs are versatile and flexible, enabling the company to focus their manufacturing to meet the needs of the end user or company that is using the product. This enables Drop Designs to produce high quality custom products and reduce the cost of production.

Therefore, it is no surprise that Drop Designs has won awards based on the ingenuity of design and manufacturing capabilities including the “Manufacturing Innovator of the Year” award for all for Northern B.C, in January of 2009.  In late May of the same year, Drop Design’s founder and president, Anders Malpass was awarded Top in Technology for his innovation, entrepreneurship, and leadership in the engineering field.
